The Cignal HD Spikers made light work of the RichMarc Sports 3B with an imposing 25-15, 25-20, and 25-16 straight set win in the Spikers’ Turf Open Conference on Sunday night at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum.
Jau Umandal led the assault for the HD Spikers, scoring 12 points on 12 attacks, while Mark Calado and Madz Gampong added eight markers apiece as they surged to solo first place in the standings with a 2-0 record.
It was a dominant performance for the HD Spikers that head coach Dexter Clamor went with his bench players Gampong, Cian Silang, and Nas Gwaza to finish the job in the third set.
“Ganun naman lagi, dapat lagi silang ready. Ganun dapat, kapag hinugot ka ng coach dapat mag-perform ka, and ipakita mo yung best mo,” Clamor said in a post-game interview.
“Hindi ko masasabi na ‘yun ‘yung best (na performance) nila kasi, I know, for sure, na meron pa silang mas maipapakita pa, may mas mailalabas pa,” he added.
Kernel Ipulan scored nine points, while Kurl Rosete had seven markers for RichMarc, which absorbed its second straight loss.
Meanwhile, the Navy Sealions bounced back from their opening day defeat with a 25-21, 25-21, 25-18 win over the Philippine Air Force Airmen to force a deadlock at 1-1. Joeven Dela Vega top-scored for the Sealions with 20 points.
