Gilas Pilipinas naturalized Filipino player Justin Brownlee is reportedly currently down with pneumonia, the main reason for his absence for the Meralco Bolts in the East Asia Super League (EASL).
According to a social media post by veteran sports journalist Quinito Henson, Brownlee’s illness could affect his participation not only for Meralco, but also in his upcoming stints with Gilas for the FIBA World Cup qualifiers and the Southeast Asian Games next month.
“Word from Ginebra & EASL is Brownlee is down with pneumonia… hope he gets well soon — JB isn’t just committed to play for Meralco in EASL but also for Gilas in FIBA World Cup Asia qualifying window Nov 28–Dec 1 and also the SEA Games Dec 13–19,” Henson wrote on X.

Despite the setback, Bolts head coach Luigi Trillo said the long-time Barangay Ginebra San Miguel Kings reinforcement remains an option for their EASL roster once he is cleared to play.
“We’re waiting for Justin, he is our naturalized so he’s an option to play. He would be a big help if he was here,” Trillo said in an interview with One Sports.
Brownlee is expected to provide a significant boost for the Bolts and for Gilas Pilipinas once he returns to full health. (AC)
