The National University Lady Bulldogs opened their title defense in the Shakey’s Super League Collegiate Pre-Season Championship with a 25-15, 25-19, and 25-15 sweep over the University of the East Lady Warriors on Saturday night at the Filoil EcoOil Centre in San Juan.
Evangeline Alinsug and incoming rookie Arah Ellah Panique spearheaded the offense for the Lady Bulldogs with 11 markers apiece, while Alyssa Solomon and Erin Pangilinan had eight and seven, respectively, as they took a 1-0 record in Pool A.
Returning Lady Bulldogs head coach Norman Miguel said their participation in the pre-season tournament was a good opportunity for them to determine the things they need to fix ahead of the UAAP Season 86 women’s volleyball tournament early next year.
“At least nakita namin kung ano pa kailangan trabahuhin as preparation for the UAAP,” Miguel said. “Siguro, dahil first game pa lang at ‘yung all-to-play, so parang nagmi-mix and match pa lang.”
In the other match, the Far Eastern University Lady Tamaraws improved to 2-0 in Pool D following a 25-6, 25-15, 25-12 victory over the Emilio Aguinaldo College Lady Generals.
Gerzel Petallo top-scored for the Lady Tamaraws with 11 points, built on eight attacks and three service aces, to be named Player of the Game.
