The Philippines regained the men’s softball gold medal at the 33rd Southeast Asian Games after shutting out Singapore, 3–0, on Thursday at Queen Sirikit Stadium in Thailand.
Twenty-year-old pitcher Jehanz Coro anchored the Blu Boys’ victory with a dominant performance on the mound, striking out 17 batters and allowing no runs in the championship game.
The win secured the Philippines’ ninth SEA Games gold medal in men’s softball and its first since 2015. Singapore had claimed the title in the 2019 SEA Games hosted by the Philippines, while the sport was not included in the 2021 and 2023 editions.
The result also served as redemption for the Blu Boys, who suffered their only loss of the tournament against Singapore in the elimination round, a 7–3 defeat highlighted by two home runs.
In the gold medal match, however, Singapore was unable to mount any offense as Coro controlled the game from start to finish, leading the Philippines back to the top of Southeast Asian softball. (AC)
