Sweet-shooting Nocum powers Rain or Shine past Phoenix for breakthrough win

Adrian Nocum led Rain or Shine to their first victory in the PBA Philippine Cup with a barrage of three-pointers, helping them defeat Phoenix Super LPG, 100-85, on Sunday at the Ynares Center in Antipolo City.

Nocum connected a total of five treys to finish with 28 points to go with his seven assists while snapping the Elasto Painters’ four-game skid.

“Mabuti maganda nilaro ngayon ni Adrian—actually, Adrian’s been playing good games in the past few games, pero he becomes a bigger threat if he’s making his three-point shots,” said head coach Yeng Guiao.

“Today he made enough three-point shots to be able to balance his offense.”

Beau Belga, meanwhile, provided the leadership for Rain or Shine, tallying 21 points and 11 rebounds, even as Jonard Clarito added 19 points and five boards.

Guiao gave a sigh of relief following their win.

“For a while, I was worried na umulit ‘yung sa last conference na 0–5 (start). Pero ngayon 1-4 naman kami ngayon. May improvement ng konti,” he said.

Ricci Rivero paced the Fuel Masters with a season-high 16 points. RJ Jazul added 11 points to their loss.
