Tai Bundit set to become new Alas Pilipinas Women head coach

The Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF) is set to appoint Anusorn “Tai” Bundit as the new head coach of the Alas Pilipinas Women’s national team in a bid to end the country’s long medal drought in international competitions.

PNVF president Anthony Liao confirmed that the federation has already secured the consent of Criss Cross management, led by Jonathan Ng, allowing Bundit to take on the national team role.

The appointment now only awaits the formal approval of the PNVF executive board.

Once confirmed, the Thai mentor will immediately begin working on the national team program, with the Philippines preparing for upcoming international tournaments, including the Asian Games in Nagoya, Japan.

Liao earlier said Bundit was being considered to replace Jorge De Brito after the national team finished fourth in women’s indoor volleyball at the most recent Southeast Asian Games.

The Philippines last won a bronze medal 20 years ago, and failed to reach the podium again after losing to Indonesia in the bronze-medal match at the 33rd SEA Games.

According to Liao, De Brito’s contract with the national team program expired at the end of 2025, paving the way for a coaching change.

Liao added that Bundit has expressed strong interest in the position and that the Thai Volleyball Federation is willing to support his involvement with the Philippine program.

Bundit previously coached the Ateneo Lady Eagles and Creamline before joining Criss Cross, making him one of the most experienced foreign coaches in Philippine volleyball.
