First Lady Liza Araneta Marcos will perform the ceremonial first serve to commence the Pasay City leg of the Volleyball Nations League (VNL) Men’s Week 3 on Tuesday at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
The Presidential wife will execute the serve prior to the 7 p.m. match between the seventh-ranked team in the world, Japan, and the twenty-fifth-ranked team, China.
“We are honored with the First Lady, Atty. Liza Marcos, making the first serve in the VNL,” Philippine National Volleyball Federation president Ramon “Tats” Suzara said.
“Her presence is greatly appreciated and will definitely boost the VNL and the country on the global volleyball stage,” he added.
First Lady Araneta is a seasoned lawyer, but sports run in her blood, as her late father, Manuel Araneta, was a member of the national basketball team that played in the 1948 Summer Olympics in London.
The Philippine leg, according to Suzara, serves as the final and most critical stage of the VNL’s preliminary round and will determine the top eight squads that will advance to the final stage from July 19 to 24 in Poland.
“Everyone is excited with the VNL men’s competition, and we’re expecting more fans to march to the MOA Arena to witness thrilling world-class and high-flying international men’s volleyball action,” said Suzara.
This marks the second consecutive year that the PNVF is hosting the VNL, the sport’s most prestigious competition organized by the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) and the Volleyball World.
