Alyssa Valdez is making the most of the playing time given to her as the Creamline Cool Smashers make a return trip to the semifinal round of the Premier Volleyball League Invitational.
The former star of the Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles scored in double digits for the second consecutive game, tallying 12 points in the Cool Smashers’ Saturday night victory over the Akari Power Chargers with a scoreline of 25-19, 24-26, 26-24, 25-19.
According to Valdez, she is not rushing things as she is still recovering from her knee injury. However, she is eager to contribute to whatever Cool Smashers head coach Sherwin Meneses inserts her into.
“It’s nice to play full games na rin at this type of level of competition. I am just grateful to be given this kind of opportunity by my coach na makapaglaro na talaga,” the 30-year-old Valdez said.
“Alam naman din natin na marami talagang pwedeng maglaro for our team, kaya kapag pinapasok talaga ako, I really want to contribute to the team,” added the many-time national women’s volleyball team skipper.
In addition to Valdez, Jessica Galanza made her presence felt in the win, recording a team-high 16 points. Diana Carlos contributed 14 markers, while Jeanette Panaga and Celine Domingo each had 11 points.
The Cool Smashers, as the defending champions, concluded their Pool A assignment with a flawless 4-0 win-loss record, securing the first ticket to the semifinal round of the mid-season conference.
